The prototypical EV charging station contains a myriad of building blocks, as depicted in Figure 2.
At the top left, three-phase AC power is introduced and rectified using efficient active devices that
also control for power-factor correction. The output current and voltage are monitored and fed
into the EV battery in the range of 400 V to 1,000 V. A parallel and isolated low-voltage domain is
used to control all of the high-voltage power electronics. This includes an AC-to-DC converter, a
microcontroller and a variety of interfaces.
