B-TRAN APPLICATIONS
B-TRAN serves as a bidirectional switch capable of performing direct AC/AC conversion. This makes
it suitable for applications requiring bidirectional power transfer between the AC mains and the
load, including EVs, renewable-energy generation, energy storage, solid-state circuit breakers and
motor drives.
“If you can improve the range of the vehicle, which is something you can do with B-TRAN, and you
can get another 8% to 10% range out of the batteries but do it without the high cost of going to
silicon carbide, it wins on both counts,” Brdar said.
